De Amerikaanse rockband R.E.M. stopt er naar 31 jaar mee. Dit maakten de bandleden gisteren bekend via hun website en Twitter. In 1980 werd de groep opgericht door Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, Mike Mills en Bill Berry.

Call it a day
R.E.M. werd vooral bekend met nummers als Losing My religion en Everybody Hurts. R.E.M. kwam dit jaar met hun laatste album, genaamd Collaps Into Now. Dit liet R.E.M. nog in een verklaring weten: ‘To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.’ R.E.M.
